About Joan Payton's Rugs and Wall Hangings

I am passionate about creativity, and happiest when I'm creating art. After making jewelry for the eight years, I am now a hooker! (For rugs, that is!). I have created hooked rugs for over ten years!

I was honored to be selected as a semifinalist in 2005 by the American Folk Art Museum in New York for the American Icon show.

I do my own cutting, dying, designing, and hooking. I'm available to do commissions of wall hangings or rugs for your house, office, or special space. Primitive, contemporary, or whimiscal let me create something unique just for you.

In this image you will find me working on a piece commissioned for The Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta.

My rugs have been included in these three books, Jessie A. Turbayne's Hooked on Rugs: Outstanding Contemporary Designs, Linda Rae Coughlin's Modern Hooked Rugs, and Hooking On The Hill by Nancy Butts Thompson.
